กรมพระราชวังบวรวิไชยชาญ พระมหาอุปราช กรมพระราชวังบวรสถานมงคล ใน
พระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว รัชกาลที่ ๕ โปรดเกล้าให้สร้างหุ่นขึ้น ๒ ชนิด
คือ หุ่นจีนและหุ่นไทย โปรดเกล้าให้สร้างหุ่นจีนขึ้นก่อนและต่อมาก็ดปรดให้สร้างหุ่นไทย
หุ่นทั้งสองชนิดแสดงอยู่ในวังหน้า แต่ก็ไปแสดงในงานอื่นๆด้วยตามแต่พระราชประสงค์
หุ่นไทยที่ทรงคิดทำขึ้นใหม่ ดำเนินวิธีกานแสดง คล้ายหุ่นหลวงหรือหุ่นใหญ่อย่างโบราณ ที่มีมาแต่ครั้งกรุงอยุธยาและรัชกาลที่ ๑ รัชกาลที่ ๒ ตัว หุ่นมีแขนขาเต็มตัว มีไม้แกนกัย
สายใยชักอวัยวะต่างๆให้เคลื่อนไหว แต่ทำตัวหุ่นให้มีขนาดเล็กลง ทำโรงคล้ายๆโรงละคร
ฝรั่ง หากเล่นอย่างหุ่นไทยและเคยเล่นถวายพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้อยู่หัว
ทอดพระเนตรในงานสมโภชช้างเผือก ที่หน้าพระที่นั่งสุทไธสวรรย์ ดังปรากฎในหนังสือ
ข่าวราชการ เมื่อวันที่ ๒๘ มิถุนายน พ.ศ. ๒๔๑๙ นอกจากนี้ยังมีหลักฐาน ปรากฎใน
ราชกิจจานุเบกษาว่า "ในงานทำบุญวันสมภพ ในสมเด็จพระยาบรมมหาศรีสุริยวงศ์ ครบ
๗๑ ปี กรมพระราชวังบวรสถานมงคลจัดทำหุ่นไปช่วยเพลา ๑"

Hun Wang Na (palace of the Front's Puppets) was born the initiation of Krom
Prarajwang Bovornvija Jarn when he ordered a craetion of two types of
puppet:Chinese and Thai pupets.Chinese puppet was created first and was then
followed by thai puppet. The puppet was called Hun Wang Na because it was
exclusively performed at Wang Na (a royal residential palace).
In overall characteristic,Hun Wang Na is a replica of Hun luang, which was
originally made since Ayutthaya period was later continued to the reigns of King
Rama I and Rama II. However,Hun Wang Na is unique in its smaller size.
Hun Wang Na was normally performed in a theater-like structure. According to
documentary evidence,Hun Wang Na was not performed frequently;it was rater
performed on special occasions.For example,a government newsletter of June
24,1876 mentioned that Hun Wang Na was once performed in from of King
Chulalongkorn in aruond A.D.1878. in celebrating while elephants,and was also
performed in a birthday cerebretion party for somdet Phya
Boromahasrisuriyawong in A.D.1878.
